  Corporate News Headline
BHEL signed a technology transfer agreement with UK-based Sheffield Forgemasters International to produce forgings for turbines and generators up to 1,000 MW rating. (BS)
NTPC said it needs 30 million standard cubic meters per day (mmscmd) of natural gas for expansion of electricity generation capacity. (BS)
Indian Oil Corp, the country's biggest oil retailer, is currently incurring a daily revenue loss of Rs.1.15 bn on fuel sales in the domestic market, its chairman told reporters. (BS)
  Economic and Political Headline
Admitting that some power projects were getting delayed due to various issues, the government has said that it may not be able to meet the 11th Plan capacity addition target of 62,374 Mw. The reasons for the delay include difficulties in acquiring equipment, besides environment and forest clearances. It is estimated that during the current five-year Plan period, the country will add just around 55,000 Mw of generation capacity against the targetted 62,374 Mw. (BS)
Purchases of new homes in the US fell in May to a record low as a tax credit expired, showing the market remains dependent on government support. Sales collapsed a record 33% to an annual pace of 300,000 last month from April, figures from the Commerce Department showed in Washington. (Bloomberg)
Growth in Europe's services and manufacturing industries slowed in June, adding to signs a European recovery is cooling. A composite index based on a survey of euro-area purchasing managers in both industries fell to 56 from 56.4 in May, Markit Economics said. (Bloomberg)
