  US markets

US markets mostly ended lower as concerns over Federal Reserve's stimulus measures overshadowed a better than expected reading on new home sales. Investors are worried about Federal Reserve quantitative measure after a Wall Street Journal report said that the central bank is likely to unveil a program of US Treasury bond purchases worth a few hundred billion dollars over several months. This was way short than market expectation of quantitative easing up to around two trillion dollars. Markets overlooked, Commerce Department's report that showed new home sales rose 6.6% to an annual rate of 3,07,000 in September from an annual rate of 2,88,000 in August. In important earnings report, Procter & Gamble reported decline in first-quarter net earnings to USD 1.02 per share from USD 1.06 per share in the same quarter last year.

    European markets

European markets fell sharply pulled by mining companies after base and precious metals prices slumped on dollar's strength. Further, the ongoing doubts regarding the scale and timing of quantitative easing by Federal Reserve also added to the selling pressure. However, rise in financial companies after better than expected quarterly numbers from Deutsche bank helped markets limit the losses. Deutsche Bank reported a smaller than expected third-quarter net loss of Euro 1.2 billion after writing down the value of its existing stake in Deutsche Postbank AG. Upbeat economic data from the euro-zone region also limited the fall. Euro zone's leading economic indicator climbed 0.3% in September following a 0.7% increase in August. In a separate report, french consumer spending increased 1.5% month-on-month in September after falling 1.6% in August.

    Indian markets (Prev Day)

The domestic bourses ended on a disappointing note as broadbased selling has dragged the benchmark indices by more than 1%. The markets kicked off the session on a downbeat note carrying forward the previous session's weak trend. The morning sentiment was dampened as almost all the Asian indices were trading in the negative terrain, dragging the MSCI Asia Pacific Index to a two-week low after declines in oil and copper prices caused raw-material producers to slump. China dragged for a second day as raw-material producers dropped on concern recent gains were excessive relative to earnings prospects. The benchmarks were seen hovering near the baseline till the mid-session when, selling pressure started to build up and the benchmarks were gradually seen dragging further in the negative terrain. The domestic bourses took support near day's low during the final hour and recovered mildly in the end. In the sectorial front, the Realty space was hammered the most losing by 2.07%. Further, the FMCG, Banking, IT and Power sectors also fuelled the downward rally losing by 1.61%, 1.19%, 1.04% and 1% respectively. Both the Nifty and Sensex showed considerable weakness and closed well below their respective session highs. The NSE Nifty closed below the 6,020 mark, while the BSE Sensex just above the 20,000 level.
