  Corporate News Headline
Reliance Communications has added 2.8 million new wireless subscribers in June this year, taking its total subscriber base to 110 million. (BS)
Sun Pharmaceutical said a US court had denied its motion to reverse a jury verdict of infringement against the Indian firm on Pfizer's Protonix acid reflux drug patent that the jury had said was valid. (BS)
HDFC Bank reported a 33.8% increase in its June quarter net profit at Rs. 8.12 bn. The bank had reported Rs. 6.06 bn profit in the corresponding quarter last fiscal. (BS)
  Economic and Political Headline
India's June exports rose an annual 30% to USD 17.75 bn, for the eighth straight month, Trade Secretary Rahul Khullar said. Imports for the month rose 23% to USD 28.3 bn, he said. (BS)
European construction output dropped for a second month in May, led by declines in Germany. Construction in the 16-nation euro region fell 1% from April, when it decreased 0.3%, the European Union's statistics office in Luxembourg said. From a year earlier, output in May dropped 6.3% after falling 5.7% in April. (Bloomberg)
Builders in the US turned more pessimistic in July than forecast, a sign the expiration of a government tax credit will depress home construction. The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo confidence index dropped to 14 this month, the lowest level since April 2009, from 16 in June, data from the Washington- based group showed. (Bloomberg)

US stocks rose, boosted by solid earnings from Halliburton and a strong order outlook from Boeing, but gains were capped by a drop in homebuilder sentiment and some disappointing corporate revenues. The NASDAQ, Dow Jones and S&P 500 added 0.88%, 0.56% and 0.60%, respectively. Boeing Co, up 1.6%, was the top boost to the Dow industrials after it announced an order for 30 large airliners from Dubai-based Emirates. International Business Machines Corp was up 1.4% ahead of its earnings report after the bell. Texas Instruments Inc rose 2.7%.

UK stocks fell, tracking weak US housing data as investors trimmed positions in riskier assets, while BP fell after leaks were discovered in its capped well. The FTSE 100 fell 10.57 points or 0.20% at 5,148.28. BP shed 4.7% as engineers monitoring its damaged well in the Gulf of Mexico detected seepage on the ocean floor. Autonomy Corp. and microchip designer ARM Holdings were among the top fallers, down 1.6% and 1.0%, respectively, ahead of earnings from US firms IBM and Texas Instruments.
