  US markets

US Stocks closed sharply higher on Wednesday, nearly wiping out losses from the previous session, after the Federal Reserve reported it has seen "modest signs of growth" in the economy and as investors focused on strong earnings reports and a slide in the dollar. In earnings, aircraft manufacturer Boeing reported third quarter net income of USD 1.12 per share on revenues USD 17.0 billion, beating expectations for USD 1.05 per share and Wells Fargo said its third quarter net income was USD 0.60 per share, beating estimates by 5 cents. Total revenues came in at USD 20.88 billion, roughly in-line with estimates. Further, Morgan Stanley posted earned USD 0.05 per share also net revenues were USD 6.78 billion for the quarter, topping projections for USD 6.44 billion. Boeing was the leading percentage gainer in the Dow, rising by 3.4% and DuPont was the second leading gainer in the index, advancing by 2.4%.

    European markets

European markets ended in positive following a rebound in commodity prices buoyed mining stocks although massive UK government spending cuts capped gains. Britain's Treasury chief George Osborne said that the country's government will make the largest cuts to public spending. Osborne confirmed he had ordered 83 billion pounds in spending cuts through 2015 which he claims are necessary along with tax increases to wipe out a spending deficit that reached 156 billion pounds last year. On the economic front, Germany's producer price inflation accelerated 3.9% in September from the previous year, mainly on account of rising energy prices and British public sector net borrowing, excluding the effects of financial interventions, increased to GBP 16.2 billion in September from GBP 15.5 billion in the same month a year ago.

    Indian markets (Prev Day)

The domestic bourses replicated previous session's extreme volatile movements, and finally closed below the 6,000 mark on Nifty. The benchmark indices kicked off the session on a weak note tracking negative global cues. The Asian markets were dragged following the weak closing for the US bourses overnight. Soon after the weak start, the indices gained strength and surpassed the baseline. But the upmove didn't last long and the market entered a volatile range with a negative bias. The rangebound trading broke when hefty selling pressure was witnessed during the final hour and the benchmarks were seen tasting fresh intraday lows. In the sectorial front, the Metal space was hammered the most as the index lost more than 2% amid profit booking. Besides, the Realty and FMCG sectors also witnessed substantial selling and declined by more than 1% each. Both the Nifty and Sensex closed well below the neutral zone. The NSE Nifty closed below the 6,000 mark, while the BSE Sensex ended below the 19,900 level.

Crude oil rebounded nearly 3% to USD 81.77, the biggest daily percentage gain in more than a month, as a weaker dollar and a smaller-than-expected rise in U.S. crude stockpiles raise investors' risk appetite. Gold settled higher at USD 1 344.20 as the dollar fell sharply against the euro and yen after a report suggested that the U.S. Federal Reserve planned to boost growth by purchasing USD 500 billion in U.S. Treasury debt over six months.
