  Corporate News Headline
Jindal Steel & Power reported a decline of 3.19% in its consolidated net profit at Rs. 9.57 bn for the quarter ended June compared with Rs. 9.88 bn in the corresponding quarter last year. (BS)
Oil and Natural Gas Corp and PetroVietnam are expected to submit a joint formal offer within weeks to buy BP's stake in the Nam Con Son gas project, Oil Secretary S Sundareshan said. (BS)
Aban Offshore has received a major portion of the USD 235 mn insurance claim for its semi-submersible rig. The company had lost its gas exploration rig, Aban Pearl, to the Carribean Sea on May 13. (BS)
  Economic and Political Headline
Growth in key infrastructure sectors slowed to 3.4% in June. The six infrastructure industries saw its pace slowing down under the impact of a decline in output growth in cement, electricity and coal. Growth in coal and cement production dipped by 0.9% and 3.6%, respectively over 15.2% and 12.7% in June 09-10. Increase in electricity generation came down to 3.4% against 7.7%. Crude oil and petroleum refinery products grew by 6.8% and 2.9% in June compared to 4% and -3.8%, respectively. (BS)
Business investment in the US picked up in the second quarter, June data on durable goods showed. Orders for non-military capital equipment excluding aircraft climbed 0.6% last month after jumping 4.6% in May, figures from the Commerce Department showed. (Bloomberg)
The Federal Reserve said US economic growth slowed in some areas over the past two months, dragged down by the expiration of a tax credit for homebuyers. "Economic activity has continued to increase, since the previous survey," the central bank said in its Beige Book business survey, while noting that two districts said that the pace of expansion slowed. (Bloomberg)

US stocks fell, sending the Standard & Poor's 500 Index lower for a second day, after orders for durable goods unexpectedly decreased and the Federal Reserve said economic growth slowed in some areas. The NASDAQ, Dow Jones and S&P 500 fell 0.86%, 0.38% and 0.69%, respectively. Boeing Co. fell 1.9%, while WellPoint Inc. slumped 3.7% as second-quarter sales missed analysts' estimates. Eastman Kodak Co. tumbled 15% after reporting a wider- than-projected second-quarter loss.

UK stocks declined the most in more than a week after results at Rexam Plc and Yell Group Plc disappointed investors and orders for US durable goods unexpectedly decreased. The FTSE 100 slipped 45.99 points or 0.86% at 5,319.68. Invensys Plc led falling shares on the benchmark FTSE 100 Index after the engineering company announced a provision on its rail business. Rexam, the world's biggest beverage-can maker, slid 3.7% after sales fell in the first half. Yell Group tumbled 19%.
