| US stocks ended higher following positive economic data that showed that the US economy was on improving path. The report showed that jobless claims fell to 4,07,000 in the week ended November 20th from the previous week's revised figure of 4,41,000. Additional buying interest was generated by a report from Reuters and the University of Michigan showing that their consumer sentiment index for November was upwardly to a reading of 71.6 from the preliminary estimate of 69.3. Meanwhile, investors largely shrugged off separate reports from the Commerce Department showing a steep drop in durable goods orders as well as an unexpected decrease in new home sales. In earnings news, agricultural equipment manufacturer Deere & Co. reported fourth quarter net income of USD 1.07 per share, beating estimates for USD 0.94 per share. Tiffany & Co. reported third-quarter adjusted earnings of USD 0.46 per share on revenues of USD 681.73 million. | |

| European markets finished on upbeat note, after seeing considerable weakness in the previous session, with mining shares boosted by rising metals prices and bid interest in Capital Shopping Centres lifting the real estate sector. Also, Airline stocks helped to maintain the markets higher, with the strength in the sector coming amid what is typically the industry's busiest day. The NYSE Arca Airline Index surged up by 3.7%, climbing back within striking distance of the three-year highs it set earlier this month. Electronic storage, semiconductor and internet stocks also posted substantial gains, reflecting strength in the technology sector as a whole. Most of the other major sectors also moved back to the upside following the broad based weakness that was seen in the previous session. Trucking, defense, railroad, and real estate stocks saw notable strength. | |

| The FNO expiry remained highly volatile and the domestic bourses witnessed a surprise drag towards the end. The markets started off the session on an upbeat note as the benchmark indices were seen opening on the higher side tracking strong global cues. The Asian bourses rose for the first time in three days after reports showed U.S. employment and consumer sentiment improved, improving confidence over the global economic recovery and driving commodity prices higher. Buying support was seen among the IT, Teck, Auto, CD and Banking stocks. However, Indian bourses drifted to the negative zone in the early afternoon trade, erasing most of the midsession gains as selling pressure was seen in front liners like Suzlon, BPCL and Rpower. The bursting of a bribery scandal by the Central Bureau of Investigation on last day, involving officials of some top PSU banks and finance firms hurt investors sentiment. In the mid session markets were trading range bound with high volatility as traders rolled over positions in the derivatives segment from the near-month November 2010 series to December 2010 series. Further, in last hour trade, despite positive European peers and US index future markets plunged sharply as heavy selling pressure was seen in Realty, PSU and Consumer Goods stock. Finally, markets closed the volatile session on negative note. At the end, Sensex closed at 19,318.16 down by 141.69 points. It touched an intraday high of 19,628.27 and low of 19,257.37. Nifty ended at 5,799.75 down by 66 points. It made a high/low of 5,907.10 and 5,780.35 respectively. | |
